YFC History
Where we have been
In the fall of 1979 a small group of Christian businessmen meeting together to explore the teen culture in Victoria. One year later Victoria was a certified chapter of Youth For Christ Canada. Since 1980 YFC ran a variety of programs to impact the lives of teens that were tailored to their needs, yet always anchored in the gospel. These include: Campus Life (High School and Junior High); Project Serve (mission trips); the Petros (a concrete boat on which were run activities and teens mentored); Sports Leagues and Camps; Youth Guidance; Heartbeat (drama); Sondance; Soul Trek; Refuge Mobile Youth Centre; YFC Choir; Fast Times Car Clubs; Full Circle (city-wide concerts); Speakers; Summer Day Camps; Multi-media presentations in schools; Field Trips; Discipleship and Leadership Training; Prayer Seminars and Retreats; Small Group Bible Studies
Changes have taken place
Victoria and area community has developed through the years, as result, some of the ministries and programs in which YFC has been involved can no longer be carried out. Some of the ministries initiated by YFC are carried on through the established churches in the community. People and resources have changed as well. Some of the YFC staff and personnel have moved on to other ministries and other areas of service.
Where we are
In 2008 YFC programs include; The Mobile Youth Centre which goes weekly to three different locations; The Fast Times Car Clubs meeting at different locations; YFC staff ministries continue in the community through Prayer Anchors, as well as teaching and caring ministries.
